Both players are signed through 2021, but Smith is due to make $3.25 million per year and Anisimov is due about $1.75 million per year.
So while the Senators might be getting the more productive player historically, they are still clearing out some cap space as they continue to go through what is going to be a lengthy rebuild.
Smith, 31, played in 70 games for the Senators last season and scored nine goals to go with 19 assists. The 28 points was eight shy of a career high.
Anisimov, 31, had 15 goals and 22 assists. He has scored at least 15 goals in five of his last six seasons.
